An American priest named Father Charles J. Young CSC founded The Christian Co-operative Credit Union Limited on July 3, 1955, which is popularly known as Dhaka Credit. It was registered in 1958 following the Bengal Co-operative Act 1940.

The main focus of this organization is to promote the standard of life of its members who are mainly living in its operational areas in four districts such as Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Munshiganj districts. Gradually it’s extending its services to common people beyond members irrespective of caste and creeds exceeding the traditional dealings with loan and installment.

Dhaka Credit’s headquarter is located at East Tejturibazar in Dhaka city. This organization has introduced 75 innovative products (on savings and loans) and different kinds of social projects and services.

Dhaka Credit is the first as well as the largest cooperative credit union of its kind in Bangladesh having more than 40,000 members, 11 Service Centers, 19 collection booths and nearly 600 staff members. Its products and projects are increasing so are the staff members accordingly.

This organization has 22-member managing board. Organization has celebrated its 64th anniversary on 3 July 2019.

The organization is running different projects such as Dhaka Credit Resort and Training Center, international standard Childcare and Education Center, two Co-operative Shops, Security Service, Dhaka Credit Union School, Cultural Academy, two multi-purpose Projects, Gym, Ambulance Service, Internet-based dctvbd.com, news portal dcnewsbd.com, IELTS and English Spoken Course, two Girls Hostels, Students Project for part-time working students, Health Project, Funeral Support Fund, Mcarthy Library, Archives, Job Linking Cell, etc.

Dhaka Credit’s most recent initiative, the first ever largest project in the history of Bangladesh’s cooperatives is the 300-bed Divine Mercy General Hospital at Mothbari, Kaliganj under Gazipur district. Dhaka Credit has started process to construct this huge hospital in its own land. After it’s run in 2022, a Medical College, a Nursing College and Institute, and a Nursing Home will be established for fullness of this project.

Loan Products include General Loan, Higher Education Loan, Higher Education Support Loan, Professional Training Loan, Business Loan, Car Loan, Capacity Based Loan, House Building Loan, Emergency Loan (Mother & Child), Competency Base Loan, Small and Medium Business Loan, Credit Ceiling Loan, Solvency Loan for Higher Education, Solvency Loan for going Abroad, Top-up Loan, Dhaka Credit Flat Purchase Loan, Flat Purchase Loan, Dhaka Metropolitan House Building Loan, Consumer Loan, Bill Pay Loan, Loan against Monthly Savings, Gym Loan, Industrial Loan and General Credit Ceiling Loan, Loan against Long Term Savings Deposit, Secure Over Draft (SOD) Loan, Open Installment Loan, Own Share Loan, etc.

In recent years, the hospital project foundation stone laying ceremony was conducted by many dignitaries of the society headed by parliament member Meher Afroz Chumki in the chair. The foundation stone for the construction of Multi-Storied building in Resort was inaugurated by the Registrar and Director General of the government’s Co-operatives Department. Bandura Multi-purpose project was inaugurated by His Excellency Archbishop George Kocherry as well as Vatican ambassador to Dhaka. More distinctive projects are in the pipelines.

Of the projects in pipelines, the construction of Nodda Multi-purpose Project will consist of Beauty Parlor and Training Center, Cooperative Shop and Hostel for the girls of indigenous communities in Bangladesh. Besides, Dhaka Credit will start seven outlets of Beauty Parlors in different parts of Dhaka city with a view to create job opportunities for them.

  • We have prepared 3rd 3 Years Strategic Plan (2011–2014).

  • We have prepared 4th 3 Years Strategic Plan (2014–2017).

  • We have prepared 5th 3 Years Strategic Plan (2017–2020).

  • We are working under this Strategic Plan for Financial Viability, Operational Efficiency, Members Satisfaction, Competitive Advantage Position, Employees Satisfaction, Good Co-Operative Governance.
